Do Indians need a visa for Bali in 2026?
Yes, but it's genuinely simple — Indian citizens are eligible for a Visa on Arrival or the online e-VOA, both covering a 30-day tourist stay, extendable once for a further 30 days (60 days total).
The government fee is approximately IDR 500,000, roughly ₹2,650–₹2,950. Applying online for the e-VOA before you fly (at the official portal, evisa.imigrasi.go.id) takes the queue out of arrival day; the airport Visa on Arrival counter charges the same fee if you'd rather do it on the day.
The cost people forget: the Bali Tourist Levy
Separately from your visa, every foreign visitor to Bali must pay the Bali Tourist Levy — currently IDR 150,000, roughly ₹790–₹840 per person, in force since 14 February 2024. It's payable online in advance through the official Love Bali portal or at counters on arrival, and you'll get a QR code receipt that can be checked on entry. It is not included in any package price, including ours, and it is easy to miss when budgeting.

Indonesia's e-VOA has a high approval rate for Indian applicants with complete documentation. Overstaying is taken seriously — the penalty is IDR 1,000,000 (roughly ₹5,900) per day — so note your permitted exit date on arrival rather than relying on memory.

A 4–5 night Kuta–Nusa Dua–Ubud package starts from ₹31,000 per person, land-only, rising to roughly ₹70,000+ per person for a premium honeymoon route or a longer Bali–Malaysia combo. These are Bayard's own package prices, not OTA benchmarks, and flights are always quoted separately since Bangalore and Chennai travellers have a materially cheaper, faster option than everyone else.

Getting to Bali from your city
Bangalore and Chennai are two of the best-connected cities in India to Bali, not just South India. Both have genuine nonstop IndiGo service to Denpasar, and Chennai's route — at roughly 6 hours 15 minutes — is the fastest and most frequent Bali connection from anywhere in South India, faster even than the direct routes from Delhi or Mumbai. Hyderabad and Kochi, by contrast, have no nonstop option at all and connect one-stop via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok. This is worth knowing before you book, because it changes both your total journey time and your flight cost — and it's the detail most Bali package pages for South Indian travellers get vague about.

IndiGo's direct Bengaluru–Denpasar service has run since March 2024 and remains one of Bali's most reliable Indian routes, at around 7 hours each way with 7–8 departures a week. Travellers from Mysore and Mangalore connect through Bengaluru and join the same direct flight.
Bali packages from Chennai and Coimbatore
Chennai's direct IndiGo service, at roughly 6 hours 15 minutes, is the single fastest way into Bali from anywhere in South India — a genuine advantage worth building your trip around if Chennai is your home airport. Coimbatore travellers connect in and take the same flight onward.
Bali packages from Hyderabad, Vizag and Vijayawada
No nonstop option exists yet, so expect a one-stop routing via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok, typically 9 to 9.5+ hours door to door. We compare carriers and layover lengths against your actual travel dates rather than defaulting to the first result.
Bali packages from Kochi and Trivandrum
Also one-stop, usually via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, at a similar 9.25 to 9.5+ hours total. Kerala's strong Southeast Asia flight network keeps fares reasonably competitive despite the extra stop.

Where to go in Bali
Kuta, Seminyak and Legian
The usual entry point and nightlife base: Kuta Beach for sunset and easy beach access, Seminyak and Legian for boutique hotels, cafés and shopping.
Canggu
A distinct, younger-skewing area worth its own mention rather than folding into Seminyak — surf breaks, a dense café and co-working scene, and rice-field views a short scooter ride from the beach. Good for a couple of nights added to a Seminyak-based stay rather than as a full base for first-timers.
Nusa Dua and Uluwatu
The resort-and-temple pairing: Nusa Dua's calm-water beaches and water-sports strip, and Uluwatu's clifftop temple with its sunset Kecak dance performance — one of Bali's genuinely worthwhile evening experiences rather than a tourist-trap add-on.
Ubud

Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan
Bali's most photographed day trip, and worth planning properly rather than rushing: Kelingking Beach's cliff viewpoint, Angel's Billabong, and Broken Beach on Nusa Penida, or a calmer, less crowded stop at Nusa Lembongan. Both require a separate boat crossing from Sanur, so budget the better part of a day, or stay overnight if your itinerary allows it.

Practical notes for Indian travellers
Vegetarian and Jain food
Bali is genuinely one of the more vegetarian-friendly international destinations, and Ubud in particular has an unusually deep bench of options. Queen's Tandoor, with locations in both Seminyak and Ubud, runs a full vegetarian and Jain-friendly North Indian menu. Sitara and Ganesha Ek Sanskriti in Seminyak both cater specifically to Jain requests (no onion, no garlic). Gateway of India in Kuta is a long-standing favourite with Indian tour groups, and The Shala Bali in Ubud specialises in South Indian dishes, including a well-regarded masala dosa. As a general rule, tell the restaurant your Jain requirements directly — most can accommodate it, but it isn't always printed on the menu.
Currency and cards
The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the local currency, and amounts run into the hundreds of thousands, which takes some getting used to. Cards are accepted in most hotels, resorts and city restaurants; carry cash for warungs, markets, and smaller Ubud cafés.
SIM and connectivity
A local prepaid SIM (Telkomsel or XL) is easy to buy on arrival at the airport; most hotels and cafés also offer reliable Wi-Fi.
Tipping
Not obligatory, but rounding up or leaving small change is appreciated; many hotels and restaurants already add a service charge to the bill, worth checking before tipping again on top.
Dress code
Bali is relaxed and beach-casual almost everywhere, but temple visits require a sarong and sash (usually provided or rentable at the entrance) and covered shoulders.
Getting around
Private drivers and pre-booked transfers are the practical norm for tourists — Bali's roads and traffic, especially around Kuta and Seminyak, are not set up for casual self-driving. Ride-hailing apps (Gojek, Grab) work well for shorter hops.
