Yes — every Indian passport holder needs an approved e-Visa before travelling to Azerbaijan. There is no visa-on-arrival option. You apply online through the ASAN Visa system, and you must have your approval in hand before you fly — Azerbaijan does not issue entry permits at the airport for Indian nationals.

Getting to Azerbaijan from your city
No city in South India has a direct flight to Baku. The only Indian cities with nonstop Baku service are Delhi and Mumbai — a combined 21 direct flights a week as of mid-2026, verified against the Indian Embassy in Baku. Everyone flying from Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi or anywhere else in South India connects either domestically through Delhi or Mumbai, or internationally through a Gulf hub such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Sharjah. Do Indians need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes. Every Indian passport holder needs an approved ASAN e-Visa before travelling — there is no visa on arrival. The 30-day single-entry tourist e-visa costs approximately USD 23–29 (about ₹2,000–₹2,850) and typically takes 3 working days to process.
Can Indians get an Azerbaijan visa on arrival?
No. Unlike some other Indian outbound destinations, Azerbaijan does not offer visa on arrival for Indian citizens. The e-Visa must be approved before you depart, and you should carry a printed copy for arrival.
How much does an Azerbaijan trip cost from India?

How long does it take to fly from Bangalore to Baku?
About 8 hours 50 minutes via Sharjah on Air Arabia, the fastest current option, or 10 hours or more via Abu Dhabi or a Delhi connection. There is no nonstop service.
How many days are enough for Azerbaijan?
4–5 nights covers Baku and Gobustan comfortably. 5–6 nights adds Sheki's Silk Road heritage. 7–8 days lets you add Quba, Gabala and Goygol for a fuller mountain-and-lake circuit.
What is the best time to visit Azerbaijan from India?
April to June and September to November, when Baku, the mountains and the Caspian coast are all comfortable. July–August can be hot in Baku (though mountain towns stay cooler), and December–March is cold, especially in the Caucasus.
Is vegetarian and Jain food available in Azerbaijan?
Yes, though less abundantly than in a Gulf city. Masala Junction and Maharani Indian Restaurant in Baku run substantial vegetarian menus; for Jain requirements, tell the restaurant directly, since no-onion-no-garlic preparation is usually available on request rather than printed on the menu.
Is Gabala worth adding to an Azerbaijan itinerary?
Yes, if you enjoy the outdoors — Gabala offers pine forests, a lake, hiking, horse riding and paragliding that Baku and Sheki simply don't have. Its activities are weather-dependent, so confirm timings close to your travel dates rather than pre-booking months out.
What documents do I need for the Azerbaijan e-Visa?
A passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date, a recent photograph, your confirmed flight itinerary, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance covering your stay (unless a host in Azerbaijan is formally responsible for your medical costs).
How far in advance should I book an Azerbaijan trip?
6–8 weeks ahead for most dates, allowing time for the e-Visa (about 3 working days, but build in a buffer) and for booking your connecting flight, since none of the routes from South India are direct.
